Fall is when wild bird contact matters most. With woodcock migrating south and grouse broods breaking up across the Maine woods, October and November offer some of the best training conditions of the year.
At Clear Cut Kennels in Kingman, Maine, your dog trains on wild grouse and woodcock in real hunting cover, not predictable setups. That exposure builds patience, control, and bird sense that carries into the field.
Whether you're getting a young dog on wild birds for the first time or sharpening an experienced dog before hunting season, this is where it happens.
Program runs October 1 through approximately November 15, weather dependent.

Trained dog, no wild bird experience
Your dog knows the basics but hasn't worked wild birds yet. Fall is when we bridge that gap — real cover, real flushes, real hunting conditions.
Too busy or no access to wild birds
You don't have the time or the land to get your dog the wild bird reps it needs. We'll handle it — daily work on grouse and woodcock through peak season.

Featured Breed Programs
While all dogs in our fall programs receive the same foundation, we customize the training plan to fit each breed's natural ability and learning style. Puppies are also in a separate program versus the mid-level or veteran dogs.
Fall Puppy Program (Ages 2–10 Months)

Meet Your Trainer: Victor Forsyth
Hi, I’m Victor Forsyth, owner and trainer at Clear Cut Kennels.
Ever since I was 13 and brought home my first English Setter, I’ve had a passion for working with pointing dogs. Over the last 25+ years, I’ve trained and competed in walking field trials and cover dog trials, and there’s nothing I enjoy more than watching a young pup grow into a confident, capable bird dog.
After growing up in Connecticut, I moved to Kingman, Maine, to be closer to bird-rich ground. Maine’s wild terrain offers the perfect training environment, and I’m proud to give dogs the real-world exposure they need to succeed in the field.
When I’m not training, I’m usually out hunting, fishing, shooting trap, or enjoying good food with friends.
